Fraser Eagle is providing 32 coaches for the event on Friday 21st September to transport the ship’s prestigious guests from the city’s new cruise ship terminal to a celebration concert at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. The company will then transport them back to the QE2 for a huge open air firework display before the ship sets sail for Southampton. Padiham-based Fraser Eagle won the contract to provide the transport following a tender by Liverpool Culture Company. “We are extremely proud to be providing coaches for such a historic and prestigious event as the QE2’s 40th birthday,” says Howard Tyrer, managing director of Fraser Eagle Coaching & Tours. “Winning this tender demonstrates our ability to deliver professionally managed transport services for large scale events such as this. “We are looking forward enormously to what promises to be a very exciting celebration in Liverpool.” The 40th anniversary QE2 voyage departed from Southampton on Saturday September 15, and calls at Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool before sailing back to Southampton. The QE2 has hosted every senior member of the Royal Family at least once; has welcomed Prime Ministers and Presidents – including Nelson Mandela – around the world; and has been home to a host of celebrities and film stars.
So far, she has travelled 5.6 million nautical miles, which is further than any ship ever. That has included 25 circumnavigations of the globe, 801 transatlantic crossings, 705 calls at New York and 697 at her homeport of Southampton, and the welcoming aboard of 2.5 million passengers.
