Passenger transport and logistics group Fraser Eagle helped hundreds of guests of the Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate the ship's 40th anniversary voyage in Liverpool on Friday (September 21).
Fraser Eagle successfully provided 32 coaches to transport the world-famous cruise liner's VIP guests from the city's new cruise ship terminal to a celebration concert at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. They were then transported back to the QE2 for further celebrations with the Duke of Kent before the ship set sail for Southampton for the end of its week-long anniversary voyage around the UK. Padiham-based Fraser Eagle won the contract to provide the transport following a tender by Liverpool Culture Company. “This was a hugely important job for us and we are delighted with how the operation went,” says Howard Tyrer, managing director of Fraser Eagle Coaching & Tours. “Thousands of people turned out in Liverpool on Friday to see the QE2 and we had hundreds of guests to transport through a busy city centre. There was a real carnival atmosphere to the occasion and we thouroughly enjoyed the day." The QE2 has hosted every senior member of the Royal Family at least once; has welcomed Prime Ministers and Presidents – including Nelson Mandela – around the world; and has been home to a host of celebrities and film stars.
So far, she has travelled 5.6 million nautical miles, which is further than any ship ever. That has included 25 circumnavigations of the globe, 801 transatlantic crossings, 705 calls at New York and 697 at her homeport of Southampton, and the welcoming aboard of 2.5 million passengers.
In November 2008 the QE2 will be transferred to Dubai, where it will be converted into a luxury floating hotel.
